Traveling to the mountainous region of Fond Verrette was a real experience!.  This region possesses some of the most spectacular mountains in Haiti.  The panorama of majestic, but often barren mountains deforested for wood to make charcoal, is almost beyond description.  To me, it looked like another world!  Roads were unpaved and precipitous and dangerous curves abounded!  One had to hold their breath and pray that there would be no oncoming trucks or buses - especially around the curves.

Potatoe Harvest Sylvio.jpg (90992 bytes)This is a photo of Pastor Joseph and the brethren harvesting potatoes. Carrots and cabbages grow well in this cool, mountainous region.  Water is trucked in and stored in a cistern. MOM provided the funds for this important resource.  Though flooded out in the flood, it was restored and is supplying clean water to the community.

These are photos BEFORE the devastating flood of 2004!The people love to come and praise the Lord.  All of the instruments were washed away in the flood.  Everything!!  Pastor Sylvio is preaching the gospel. The sound system was destroyed in the flooding. PastorSylvioPreaching.jpg (178587 bytes)

FVSchoolKids1.jpg (159296 bytes)  The church is also the only school for these children.  They need school supplies badly.  The few they had are gone.

I met with these brethren and outlined an economic development plan with them.  They insisted that I meet with them after I met with the women to discuss a plan of economic development.Ladies MeetingFV.JPG (49835 bytes)

After the service, we all posed for group photos in front of the church and the unfinished building that was to be the home of Pastor Sylvio and family.

Pastor Joseph Sylvio is a young man with a heart for the Lord Jesus.  He needs help with his school and church which were destroyed in the last hurricane.  He needs a generator to provide electrical power for lights in Robio, one of the more remote districts of which he oversees. A generator would enable them to provide adult education in the evening.

The Gospel is being taught, and men and Wedding lst at Sylvio Church.jpg (28261 bytes) women are being led to righteous living.  Weddings are very important as the first step in building stable family relationships.  Used wedding gowns are needed to encourage the young and old to take this step in changing family structures to biblical family structures.

The schools are woefully inadequate, especially the primary schools.  Without a primary education, the children would never get to secondary school.  They will remain in the chains of illiteracy!  There are no colorful teaching aides for the little ones.  Paper is scarce and pencils are precious.  Can you help us to help them?FVSchoolPencils.jpg (81933 bytes)FVSchoolPen2.jpg (86959 bytes)Fonds-Verrettee&-Sis-Sylvio.jpg (106516 bytes)
