Solar Oven Solar Bakery Water Filters Literacy Project Transportation Gardens/Animals Sewing Project Back Home Next

In March of 2008, the Villager Sun Oven was moved to Petite Riviere De Nippe.  The location offerred better solar radiation and was located on a flat beach property.

Pastor and Mrfs. Romane Nore were two of the students who attended the Free Methodist Solar Program in Port-au-Prince in 2006.  They were very enthusiastic about solar cooking, and returned to their village teaching others how to make solar ovens from cardboard boxes and foil.

Pastor Romane is a baker by trade!  Well, this young man has so many certificates in so many areas, that it is amazing.  He was one of the trainees in the Clean Water Project and was certified as a BioSand Water Filter Technician by CAWST!. And, he successfully finished  seminary in the spring of 2009!

Here is Pastor Romane in the red shirt discussing the bakery project at the new location in Petite Riviere De Nippes, Haiti. It is located about 4 hrs from Port-au-Prince.  The drive is very long and harsh with unpaved roads that wreak havoc with your tires!  I would prefer a military vehicle  to use when travelling through the remote areas!

Pastor Romane and his team worked late into the night and into the morning widening the door of one of the school buildings so that the Villager could be secured.  We arrived at his home at 4:am in the morning and the team was busily finishing the widening of the door.  The photos show the early morning activity.  It was very heartening to see the enthusiasm of the Haitian team.  They are such hard workers!  All they need is a little help and technology.  They are willing to work! A steel security door was installed to secure the Villager Oven.

Pastor Romane's wife was right out there with the men helping.  We all helped to push the heavy oven into its new home!  The joy was unspeakable.

MAY 2009  The Realization of a 15 Year Dream!

A series of hurricanes and other problems prevented the team from travelling back to Port-au-Prince for the advanced training.  Then, in May of 2009, Pastor Jack Munos stepped in and trained 13 Haitians on the solar oven in Petite Riviere De Nippes.  He brought along two of his trainers and uncrated the oven, got it cleaned up and set up for baking!  The team had an intense hands- on training session that ended with them eating the first loaves of bread cooked by the sun!  The class was held on the beach as the bread that was prepared by Mrs. Romane was baking.

Pastor Jack and the instructors also cooked beans in the small family size solar oven that had been sent to Haiti in 1994!  Pastor Jack and Pastor Romane checking the family size sun oven. Madame Romane is admiring her oven! That oven is still working without a hitch!  It can save untold number of trees from being cut down for charcoal. Well, here's the class of May 2009- all trained and ready to master our bakery micro-enterprise!

MOM and the people of De Nippes will always be grateful to the wonderful Pastor Jack Munos for his compassionate response to my plea for help in getting my team trained.  He and his 2 trainers did a magnificent job of training and encouraging the project manager and the apprentices.  Pastor Jack demonstrated the love of Christ in his actions!  We love you, Pastor Jack....we really, really, really love you!  Thank you for making my dream of 15 years a reality.

Family Size Solar Ovens

We will be expanding our solar cooking project to include these small marvels in the remote villages.

July 2009

In July 2009, I visited the bakery and was delighted to see it up and running full speed.  Pastor Romane sheepishly asked for a second oven because of the high demand for fresh bread by villagers on both sides, and he could not keep up with the demands!  Well, I thought this was ridiculous because it took me 15 years to get to this point, but when I looked into their faces and saw the hope in their eyes, I remembered that it was the Lord that had made this all possible, and that He could do it again somehow.  So, I said OK!  Just remember that Bishopla (that is my Haitian name of endearment) does not have the money, but we will pray and believe God for it!  Need I say more??

These photos show the bakery kitchen and the equipment to roll the dough.  Two men are required to operate it.  Pastor Romane and I are standing beside our solar marvel that was donated by Howard University in 2005!  You can see the bread baking through the glass of the oven.  They were able to bake  over 200 Haitian loaves of bread daily wit the sun.

October 2009

On a bright and glorious morning on October 2, 2009, our second miracle was delivered by our wonderful Pastor Jack Munos to Petite Riviere De Nippes?  God can do anything!

Pastor Munos and Pastor Romane really hit if off well.  They love each other and work together so beautifully.  The people of the village all pitched in to unload the second Villager Oven.  Note the typical loaves of bread in the basket.  Pastor Romane  brillantly priced the bread to make it affordable to all!  And the bread is delicious!  Ladies, notice the men in the kitchen of the bakery!!

In Memoriam - January 12, 2010

MOM honors the memory of Pastor Jeanne Munos, the wife of our beloved Pastor Jack Munos who was called home on January 12, 2010 in the earthquake.  Pastor Jack was miraculously pulled from the wreckage of the beautiful, new Friends of Haiti office and residence in Haiti, badly injured but alive.  Our prayers will always be with him!

MOM wishes to thank Bro. Lowell Yoder of FOHO for their generous donation of the our Villager Sun Oven #2.  Lives have been changed and hearts have been made happy by the addition of the second oven.  More than anything, is the testimony of how our prayers were answered by the Lord.

The Solar Bakery is serving over 1500 people a day, twice a day.  The survivors who fled to De Nippes found hot food cooked by God's beautiful sun on our two Villager Sun ovens and our little Global oven!

Thank you Pastor and Mrs. Romane and all of those who help at the bakery for your compassionate services.  We are so proud of Pastor Roman Nore who is truly a genius whom God has blessed with an extraordinary sense of perception and multiple skills.  And, he is a seminary trained pastor as well.
